Dancers perform, rehearse and learn to dance in all kinds of spaces, inside and outside. It is essential that dancers and those leading dance know how to address any risk factors that they come across within their own dancing environment. It is also important that you understand what optimum conditions are and why it is important to strive for these.
Twenty online questions ask you to provide information on the ideal dance environment and how to mediate negative effects of less than optimum conditions. The questions are in the format of multiple choice, matching, short answer and option selection.
The Certificate requires you to demonstrate that you are aware of the fundamental factors that support safety and wellbeing when preparing to dance in any environment, indoors or outdoors, in a theatre, rehearsal space or studio. In order to achieve the certificate you will need to show knowledge on topics such as space size, appropriate flooring and preferred temperature. Information on country-specific legal requirements, fire regulations and an understanding of assessing risks, safeguarding dancers and relevant insurance is also required.
This certificate is submitted and reviewed entirely online and offers 6 hours of endorsed continuing professional development. The Preparation for Healthy Dance Certificate deals with preliminary Dance Health and Safety (Knowledge Area 1/Core Principle 1). It represents Section One of the full Certificates. Working towards this Certificate will improve your understanding of how to protect yourself and your dancers in the environment in which you practice.
On successful completion of the Preparation for Healthy Dance Certificate you will receive a Safe in Dance International Certificate which provides international, professional endorsement of your knowledge and understanding of this topic, as supported by NIDMS, Healthier Dancer Canada and the CDDET.
