SiDI Central

Safe in Dance International was founded by Maggie Morris, Sonia Rafferty and Matthew Tomkinson with the support and advice of its international advisory groups.  Though the advisory groups are not directly involved in the day to day running of the business they are an integral part of our work.

The lead academic partners at SIDI have many years of experience in dance in a range of areas starting out as professional dancers, and then moving on to be choreographers, artistic director dance educators and dance scientist.  Their passion for their work with SiDI is embedded in the fact that they first and foremost consider themselves as dance artists and educators rather than dance scientists.

Our Core team includes the two founders, Maggie Morris and Sonia Rafferty; Tina Kresovic who works closely with Maggie in the co-ordination of SiDI’s work and Beth Ackroyd who manages SiDI’s social media.

Working with Dr Yiannis Koutadakis of Wolverhampton university this comprised of some of the first dance science research on professional dancers in the UK and, also helped contribute to developments in Dance UK’s Healthier Dance Programme.  Since then, Maggie has had a growing interest in this area, leading to her founding Safe in Dance International with Sonia Rafferty in 2014.
